YOU KNOW YOU HAVEN'T BEEN BLOGGING MUCH WHEN....

You can't remember the password to your blog!  That's me, guilty!  I think I should have clarified in my last post that when it snowed here last Sunday, the snow did not actually stick around.  It melted as soon as it hit the ground (typical for the first snow).  I forgot to point that out.  Oops.  Anyway, it wasn't even officially recorded as a snow day with the weather service since it melted.  A lady at church said told my husband that it was just "thick rain".  Ha!

I've almost finished planning all the details of our trip to Hawaii and as soon as I am finished, I will continue with our trip to Homer, Alaska, I promise!  Just to tide you over, here's a couple of shots of the beautiful fall we were enjoying until recently:

So Much To Say....So Little Time

I'll start by saying that today, while we were in church, it started snowing.  Yes, that's right, the S-word.  On September 26th.  I am so not ready for winter, both in the physical and mental sense.    I didn't get any pictures of the snow today because my camera is in the shop getting cleaned.  I want it to be in tip-top shape because my husband surprised me for our five year anniversary that is coming up in November and announced that he is taking me to.........

HAWAII FOR TWO WEEKS!!!!

I have been working on our itinerary all weekend!  This trip is going to be so wonderful.  I have booked some remarkable and amazing accommodations, both on the Big Island, where we will be for 11 glorious days and on Oahu, where we will be for 2 extravagant days!  Here's a hint, it's where we stayed on our Honeymoon...The Kahala Resort!

Thank you my dear sweet John for such a wonderful anniversary present.  You really are the very best husband a girl could ever want.  You are the best person I know and I love you with all of my heart!  Thank you for having such a good heart and blessing me so.....

P.S. - I forgot to mention the best part of our weekend.  There is a man who has been calling us from Jamaica for over 2 months (and at wee hours of the morning most of the time) attempting to phone scam us.  He called yesterday afternoon and my husband and I prayed for him to be saved when we answered the phone.  He hung up on us twice, but called back again and accepted Jesus Christ into his heart.  Hallelujah!!! Please pray for Jimmy W. to be strong and truly seek the Lord with a pure heart.

Where Have I Been?

Well,  I have been busy planning a business trip to....
Fabulous Las Vegas!!!!

And better yet, we will be staying at the fabulous JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa!!!

We also get to take our Pastor and his wife, who is also our Pastor!  (Hi Pastor Jim and Yvonne!  We are so excited to spend time with you guys!)

The trip is in mid-October and I can't wait to review our hotel room and the facility in general.  Our convention is located at this resort, and I am very thankful as it is not located on the strip.  There's a reason Vegas is called "Sin City" and the strip is definitely an environment conducive to sin.

I also have been trying to finish up my posts about the remainder of our Homer and Kenai River trips, but I think I must have broke my camera because most of my pictures turned out Terrible (yes, with a capital T).  I have been doing some heavy editing and will hopefully have something posted sometime this weekend.

Check back soon and please remember to pray for sweet baby Bennett.  Do you follow Adrienne's blog?  I saw the pictures of her and Jim holding Bennett today and thought they were so sweet.  I pray for their family a lot because their story has touched me.

I see the amazing grace of God growing in that little isolette with every picture that she posts.  How amazing to know that almost 3 months ago Bennett was born premature and weighed only 1 pound, 4 ounces.  He was as long as a 12 inch ruler.  That is tiny.  Who but our God could sustain such fragile life?  Praise Him for his loving kindness.

HOMER, ALASKA...THE END OF THE ROAD. LITERALLY

Also known as the Halibut Fishing Capital of the World.  We didn't go to Homer to fish though.  We went there to see if we would like to move there (someday)!

Homer is about 220 miles south of Anchorage and really is the end of the road.  It's the termination point for the highway on the Kenai Peninsula.

It is always a little stressful to drive down to the peninsula for my husband and I because a) it is a fairly dangerous stretch of road; b) we normally travel on the weekends...thus heavier traffic; and c) the fish were going to be running.  (Alaskan translation for fish running:  that means the salmon were making their journey from the ocean back to the river of their birth in order to spawn and die.  They come in to the rivers in "runs" with the tide, attempting to avoid the many predators in the sea and on land.)

People in Alaska temporarily lose all their common sense, courtesy and basic reasoning skills when the fish are running.  OK, so not all people in Alaska, but at least half of the fishermen do!  The only thing they can focus on is getting to the river (any one of Alaska's many fabulous rivers) and casting their lines!  When they are not at the river, or are on their way to the river, they are certain that all the other fisherman that are already at the river are catching all the fish.  They know that if they don't hurry up and get to the river, all the fish will be gone.  Which is silly, of course, but that's how it works.

All that to say that my husband and I decided to leave the stress at home and take our time getting to Homer this time.  We headed out on a Monday and instead of going directly to Homer, we stayed overnight at the Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge in Cooper Landing, about 90 miles south of Anchorage.

It rained cats and dogs the whole way down, which is pretty unusual for Alaska. This summer has been a record breaker for rain, at least in Anchorage. Thankfully, it started clearing up by the next morning. Praise Jesus!

I double heart love the Kenai Princess.  It is so peaceful and tranquil there.  It is operated by Princess Tours.  I think they built it just so their Alaska cruise passengers would have a neat place to stay.  I have been asking my husband to take me there for as long as we have been married, almost five years, and we finally made it happen!
These pictures are for my Honey.  He loves Bald Eagles.
(It's a metal statue in front of the Lodge.)

The Kenai Princess has the most charming guestrooms.  They are little cabins scattered all over the property around the Lodge.

Here's the inside of our room.

I don't know why, but it tickled me that they have shuffleboard on the grounds.

The neat little gift shop.

And, of course, the best part.  The Lodge sits right above the world famous, and beautiful, Kenai River.

They had a really big outdoor hot tub available, but unfortunately for us, we were late in getting down there and the tub was closed.

We slept in the next morning and it was heavenly.  We nearly checked out late on accident.  I wish we could have stayed another day or two.  Thank you Kenai Princess for a lovely night!

I snapped this pic for my honey too.  We were driving down the road through Cooper Landing headed to Homer.

This is the kind of cabin we could live in if we moved to Homer.
The Kenai River as seen from the bridge at Cooper Landing.

Check back soon for the next post from Homer, Alaska!
